Your right to chose who repairs your vehicle

Something important to note is that the majority of consumers assume that your only choice regarding vehicle repair is to take the car to the accident repair centre recommended by your insurance company. This is simply not the case and it's important to remember that it's your right for your vehicle to be repaired wherever you request.

Why do insurance companies push towards 'approved' repairers?

Insurance companies usually direct policy holders to one of their listed 'approved' repairers. These repairers are part of a network chosen by the insurance company themselves. These repaireres are often chosen because they offer an 'effective' solution for the insurance company meaning that, vehicles are repaired for the minimum amount possible. The Office of Fair Trading and also the British Board of Motor Insurers state that Vehicle insurance policy holders have the right to decide where their vehicle is repaired and this is regardless of the insurance company’s advice.
